Mobility Scooter Buying Guide

Where will you be using your mobility scooter most of the time?

This is probably the most important question to answer. A general rule of thumb: 3-wheel scooters work best inside; 4-wheel scooters work best outside.

If you're planning on driving in the road, most states require that the scooter be able to reach a speed of at least 8 mph. You must also have the appropriate lighting on your scooter as well.

If you think that you may be traveling over rough terrain with cracks, rocks, or curbs, you will absolutely need a 3-wheel scooter.

Do you have narrow hallways or tight corners in your home?

3-Wheel scooters will work best for narrow hallways and tight corners. A 4-wheel scooter could get caught around corners, on doorframes, along with a number of other items that could be in the way.

Do you need to be able to take your scooter with you on the go?

Most mobility scooters nowadays can be broken apart in a few pieces so that they can easily fit in your vehicle. Some models are easier than others. It's usually best to call and see how easy a particular model will break down. Also, a major factor with the ease in which an individual can break down a scooter is the weight of the heaviest part of the scooter. This spec is shown on virtually any mobility scooter online.

What about accessories?

Many scooter users need the ability to carry their things along with them. Virtually every scooter model can be accessorized. You can find anything from a canopy, to a cover, to oxygen holders that will fit right on to your scooter perfectly.
